Liposuction and Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty or 'tummy tuck' is done to remove unwanted fat and very loose skin from the middle and lower abdomen. It restores weakened or separated abdominal muscles. Excess skin and fat is removed from the middle and lower abdomen. Both women and men choose this procedure to have a firmer, thinner abdomen.
It corrects sagging skin & tightens relaxed abdominal muscles and may often involve liposuction for fat removal & sculpting the abs. Abdominoplasty can be combined with other procedures.
There are two kinds of abdominoplasty, including:
Full Abdominoplasty –
removes excess skin and tightens underlying muscles across the whole abdominal area, including around the navel. Liposuction may be employed for fat removal and abdominal sculpting.
Partial Abdominoplasty –
removes excess skin below the navel and tightens the lower abdominal muscles only. Smaller Incision is made. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia. The length of the operation will depend on the extent of the surgery, but it could take up to three hours.
TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURE
Depending on the technique used and whether the surgery is combined with liposuction, the surgery will take around two hours. You may be required to stay overnight at the hospital.
RECOVERING FROM A TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURE
Recovery time will vary from individual to individual. Some patients are able to return to work after only two weeks while others take about three to four weeks. You will wear a support garment for six weeks and you will also have follow up visits for the months after your surgery. Generally, you should be back to full activity in about six weeks. You should avoid strenuous lifting for a month. You can do some moderate exercising during this time period.
MINI TUMMY TUCK SURGERY
The mini tummy tuck is a procedure that is designed to remove excess fat and skin around the waist. This will leave you with a flatter and lower body profile. You will have a younger looking abdomen as well. This procedure is similar to abdominoplasty but the navel is not repositioned anymore.
In the mini tummy tuck, the skin is separated between the incision line and the navel. The skin flap is pulled down and all the excess is removed. The flap is then stitched back into place. The result is a flatter and more toned abdomen.
The mini tummy tuck takes about an hour or two. You may be required to stay at the hospital overnight but this requirement will vary from patient to patient.
You must be realistic when it comes to expectations from cosmetic surgery. The results and outcome from a tummy tuck are normally excellent. The effect is also long lasting if you exercise regularly and follow a balanced diet.
You are going to have some bruising and swelling in your abdomen area. It should subside in a day or two. The stitches will also eventually dissolve. You must wear support bandages and garments in this area for about a month and you will also be required to have follow-up visits to your surgeon.
Every patient has their own unique way and pace of healing. There are some patients who will resume doing normal activities after only a few days whilst others will take more than a week to become mobile. Normally, you should be able to return to work after a few weeks. You can do some light exercises to helpyour body heal but you should not push yourself to the limit and do strenuous exercises for at least a month.
